ABOUT

ABOUT

Samuel Pradalie (1997) is a Bristol-based composer whose music explores the relationship between structural approaches to composition and emotionality. Described as "microcosms of ingenuity and creativity," Sam's compositions are characterised by unpredictable musical changes. Sam is also a founding member of the Middle Aisle Ensemble, which made its debut at the Bristol New Music Festival. Samuel studied composition at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and the University of Cambridge where he gained a Distinction in his MPhil in Music (composition pathway), funded by a generous bursary from the Ralph Vaughan Williams Trust. Samuel has also been a participant of several awards including the 2020 Psophos Composition Prize for his orchestral piece "Moving Shapes" and the 2018 John Halford Competition for his piano piece "Three Depictions of Breakfast." Samuel has worked with various ensembles including the Amatis Trio, Lietzeorchester Berlin, CoMA Ensemble London, Bristol Ensemble, The Carne Trust String Quintet, and Borough New Music. His work has been performed at diverse venues including the UdK Konzertsaal Berlin, Blackheath Halls London, West Road Theatre Cambridge, St George's Bristol, and Cube Microplex Bristol, as well as having his music broadcast on BBC Radio 3. In 2022, his opera "Memoirs of an Amnesiac The Life of Erik Satie," based on the writings of composer Erik Satie, was performed at The Cockpit Theatre as part of Tête à Tête's summer festival, generously supported by the RVW Trust.
